I (Greg) began my musical journey at an early age, picking up the saxophone.  Later, I happened onto another fun instrument, the Bassoon.   I fell absolutely in love with the bassoon, finding it to be an instrument that would forever keep me learning. I continued through high school to become the top rated H. S. musician in the state of Georgia.

About Us

After H.S., I continued my studies at The Cleveland Institute  of Music.  I was blessed to study bassoon with George Goslee (the then retired principal bassoonist of the Cleveland Orchestra) and chamber music with John Mack (principal oboe of the Cleveland Orchestra.) Learning from these giants  of the music world helped me become an ever learning musical sponge.

I eventually won the principal bassoon position in the Augusta (GA) Symphony where I served for five seasons.  I loved making music there, but felt that there was something else calling to me.  I was given the opportunity to become a voicer at the  Wick’s Organ Company, Highland, IL.  Taking a one year leave of absence from my orchestra job, I took the chance.  I moved to St. Louis, MO to be close to a large city with an orchestra so I could continue to teach and play.  While at the WOC, through the wisdom of the late Martin Wick, the decision was made to have me study with Samuel Hughes.  Sam is a wonderful mentor and friend and has helped me to go in the right direction.  Meticulous attention to detail is the only way to approach voicing.  Luckily, I love voicing as much as bassooning.

In 2005, I decided to branch out on my own. Organ Reed Restoration is a labor of love. I enjoy the process of bringing back to life truly beautiful works of art.  The pipe organ is such a wonderful instrument.  Voicing and restoring reeds brings me back to the same feeling I had when I first picked up the bassoon—a sense of joy in always having fun and continued learning and growth.

My wife, Elaine, graduated from Southern Methodist University earning her BBA with a major in Marketing. She spent the majority of her career working as a travel consultant for a company that specialized in luxury Music and Garden tours. She ‘retired’ when our son, Matthew, was born and we decided to start our own business. While working as a ‘stay at home Mom,’ she also takes care of the odds and ends of the business so I can concentrate on the voicing and restoration.  She works with the books, billing, and marketing. This is her first endeavor as a ‘web designer.’  She also is an independent consultant for The Pampered Chef, selling kitchenware in customers homes and online. Please email her if you would like information on her website.
